THE FOUTH SEASON!!!

HERE IS THE INSIDE REPORT ON THE 4TH SEASON
What is all the noise being made about the new season? Many of you have asked what entails in the next set of episodes coming on Cartoon Network this fall.
If you didn't know before, now you know: The new season will be shown this September on Cartoon Network and Funimation will release the new tapes this May 14th. Until then we have decided to give you a teaser on the upcoming season. This section is geared to new schoolers who haven't seen this series yet. However, ole schoolers will find things they might not have known as well.

TRUNKS ALTERNATE FUTURE

In Trunks version of the future, Goku was killed by an incurable heart disease. After Goku dies everyone went their separate ways and lived peacefully. But a half year later, two evil appeared in a town south east of the southern capital. They were very powerful and destructive. The Z team swings into action in an attempt to defeat the new threats. Unfortunately they were unable to beat them and each of the Z team members were killed one by one: Piccolo, Yamucha, Tein-shinhan, Krillin and even Vegita were defeated easily. The two powerful beings were known as the two androids. Gohan was the only surviving member of the Z team.

13 years has passed, and the androids continue to wreck havoc on earth. Seems no one is able to stop them. While Bulma and Trunks are driving towards their home, they hear on the radio that Peppertown was being attacked. A young, teenage Trunks gets angry and attempts to fight the androids alone. By the time Trunks gets to Peppertown the androids had already left. As Trunks looks around the wreck, Gohan suddenly makes his appearance. Trunks goes over to Gohan and asks him "why are they doing this?"

Back at Capsule Corporation, Trunks displays his frustration over the androids and asks Gohan to train him. He wants to become stronger so he can fight with Gohan. Gohan agrees and tells Trunks that he is the key to defeating the androids. After eating a meal that Bulma made, the two of them begin their training. During a rest from sparring, Trunks asks Gohan what his father was like. Gohan says his father "puts up a front, but was tough and showed a lot of pride." Trunks was happy to hear that his father was full of pride; he never really got to know what his father was like. As the day went on, the two continued their training. In this session Gohan attempts to teach Trunks how to transform into a Super Saiyan. Trunks attempts to change but finds it difficult to make the first transformation. It was Gohan's hope that Trunks would become stronger than himself and help beat the androids.

The next morning, the androids appear at an amusement park nearby. Gohan and Trunks race towards the park. Gohan confronts android 17 and tells Trunks to stand back. The two begin to fight and between them they seem to be at an even level. But when android 18, who was at the moment riding a merry go round, noticed android 17 stalling in the battle, she interferes and attacks Gohan. The blow knocks Gohan into a building. Worried that Gohan would be in trouble if the two androids attack him at once, Trunks reacts by attacking android 18. He tries his best to fight, but to no avail, he was too weak to put up a decent fight. Android 18 toyed with Trunks blocking his weak attempts easily. Eventually android 18 grew tired of toying around. As she was getting ready to implement a harsh blow, Gohan quickly notices Trunks being in danger. Android 17 fires a blast at Gohan while he rushes to save Trunks. The blast inadvertently hits Trunks as Gohan grabs him. Then android 18 provides a critical blast towards Gohan and Trunks. In order to protect Trunks, Gohan had to use his arm to absorb the blast. Gohan quickly finds an area nearby to hide. The androids frustrated that they cant find Gohan expend numerous blasts to destroy the whole area. Since Gohan and a unconscious Trunks was still in the area, they got caught in the blasts. The two androids fly away afterward, assuming that no one survived. After some time Gohan awakens and finds himself badly injured, missing his right arm lost in the blast. He struggles to pull out a bag of sensu beans only to find that there is only one left. Gohan gives it to Trunk before passing out. Trunks recovers and quickly brings Gohan to Bulma for treatment.

Luckily Gohan recovers from the battle, but he now has one less arm. A few days later, Trunks continues to train as he attempts to transform into a Super Saiyan. Moments later, the androids are on the attack again, only this time its the central capital. This sends Gohan into a rage as he powers up to go out and fight the androids again. Trunks wanted to help Gohan, believing he is ready to fight. But Gohan doesn't feel the same. He agrees with Trunks to let him fight. But as Trunks turned his back, Gohan knocks him unconscious. Gohan hoped that if he died, Trunks would take over as protector of Earth, surpass himself in power and beat the androids. Gohan did this to protect Trunks. Soon after he confronts the androids again, with nothing in his way. He puts up a valiant fight. But eventually Gohan is over powered and beaten by the androids. They throw a barrage of attacks and blasts that kill Gohan. Trunks regains his consciousness and realizes what happened to him. He walks into the capital, with the city in ruins and finds Gohan lying on the floor motionless. Trunks goes over to Gohan and sees that he is dead. With the rain falling hard and his anger raging, this triggers Trunks ability to transform into a Super Saiyan as he screams in a rage at Gohan's death!

3 years later, nothing has changed as the androids continue to run freely on Earth. Bulma tells Trunks that the time machine is almost ready to use. She wanted Trunks to go to the past so that he can save Goku from dieing of the heart disease. At that moment the androids attacked Bridge Town. Trunks who continued to train and get stronger, feels he is ready to fight the androids. He goes out to fight the terror duo. And although he has become stronger, his inexperience shows as he quickly runs out of "ki" power. At this point Trunks is powerless as he blanks out at the android's attacks.

Trunks wakes up in a medical bed, wrapped in bandages. He was lucky that Bulma got to him in time. He realized that he needs help in beating the androids and decides to go in the time machine. Bulma feels that if Goku were alive, things would not have turned out the way they did. Trunks asks if Goku was really that strong. Bulma goes on to say that in the past, Goku overcame anything. Trunks smiles and says that he looks forward to seeing his father. Bulma then tells Trunks "don't get you hopes up too high!"

Trunks prepares to go 20 years in the past. Bulma gives him the heart medicine to give to Goku. On the time machine written is "HOPE!" Trunks gets into the time machine bids his mother farewell and takes off.

. THE PLAYERS: NEW CHACTERS

This section previews some of the new characters appearing in season 4. Take note that there are details missing from each character as to avoid spoilers in the descriptions

Future Trunks
The son of Vegita and Bulma. Not as icy as his father and not as goofy as his mother, but somewhere in between. Much like his father, he is hard and aggressive. But unlike his father he is very polite and has values. He thinks in conventional ways and is very civilized when making decisions.

Android 20
Seemingly the leader of the androids, number 20 is one of the first to make an appearance in the city south east of the southern capital. Like all androids he is powerful yet emotionless. This model uses feeders on his palm to gather energy from his opponents and is totally mechanical.

Android 19
One of the first of the two androids to appear, this model is the same type as android 20.

Android 17
He is the aggressor of all androids. Although he is at odds with his creator, Dr. Gero, he continued to search and destroy Son Goku, as it was part of his main programming. Android 17 is a cyborg, meaning that he is half human and half mechanical.

Android 18
She is a cyborg as well. Although at times it appears that android 17 is the one who calls the shot, she has her ways to coax him into what she want to do.

Preview: the android saga
Freeza and his father King Cold land on planet Earth and begin to send their troops to take over Earth. As soon as they are sent out, slashes of a sword are seen every where and body pieces of the soldiers are falling on the floor. Out of the dust, a young man appears. Freeza asks the young man "what do you want Earthling?" The young man tells Freezer that he is going to destroy him.

This is how season four begins.
The mysterious warrior
Who is this mysterious boy? It is none other than Trunks, the warrior from the future. Trunks is the son of Vegita and Bulma (Goku flips out upon hearing this), which explains why he is able to transform into a Super Saiyan. He traveled in a time machine built by Bulma in an effort to alter the horror of his reality. His main goal is to find Son Goku and hopes that he can help find a solution to the problem. When he finds Goku he explains what happened in the future. Trunks realized that he can never change his own timeline. He hopes however, that by watching Goku fight in this timeline, he can learn something from him or maybe bring Goku to his future to help beat the androids.
Training for the future
Trunks warns Goku that in 3 years, two androids will appear south east of the Southern capital. He gives Goku the cure for the heart disease that will affect him, so that he may survive and fight the androids. After Trunks leaves, the others approached Goku, wondering what the boy had to say. But because of Goku's fickle nature he forgets the details Trunks tells him. Fortunately because Piccolo's auditory system is more sensitive than humans and Saiyans, he overheard everything Trunks said. So after Piccolo tells everyone of the future (skillfully keeping Trunks identity hidden from Bulma and Vegita), they all agree to train for 3 years and meet at the island where the androids will appear. Piccolo trains with Goku and Gohan, Krillin trains with Mutenroshi (the turtle master, although he was not much help), Vegita trains by himself in Capsule 3 where he uses the gravity machine (and multiplies the gravity by 450), Yamucha trains on his own, and Tein and Chaosu train in the mountains.

Dr. Gero's creations
The androids are the creation of Dr.Gero. He is a doctor who was part of the infamous Red Ribbon organization and for years plotted to one day defeat Goku. In the past, Goku defeated many branches of the Red Ribbon army. Dr. Gero's sole purpose for creating the androids is to beat Goku. In Trunks timeline, the two androids activated by Dr. Gero, turned on their creator and killed him. There was a sense that no one could control the androids. Three years from the first appearance of Trunks, the two androids attacked. At first they try to defeat Son Goku and his friends. But found that they had misjudged the skills of the Z team. After the failed attempt, android 20 heads back to Dr.Gero's lab to regroup. Trunks returns to check up on things in this timeline. Upon seeing the debris of android 19 Trunks thinks to himself "what's going on? This is not one of the androids I fought!" The first two androids that showed up are not from Trunks future. This scenario confuses Trunks as something strange is going on. Back at the lab, android 20 is reluctant to start the backup androids because they are hard to control. Having no other option he activates android 17 and 18. It turns out that these are the androids Trunks talked about and they are more powerful than the two in the future. They act differently however (less destructive...a little).
Sounds good? There is so much more that happens in this series. What lies ahead for the Z team? Why are things so different from Trunks timeline? All these questions and more can be found by
Vegita achieves Super Saiyan!
After the three years of training, and the androids first appear, Vegita is the one that is missing of all Z team members. Later we see Vegita make a grand entrance and show off his new ability: to transform into a Super Saiyan. He realized that no matter how much he trained, he would never surpass Goku (Kakarot). He got so angry at himself that he transformed into a Super Saiyan.
Android 20 is really Dr.Gero!
When the first two androids attack the city south east of the Southern capital, the so called leader androids, number 20, was really Dr.Gero. When he went back to his lab to activate androids 17 and 18, the two turn on their creator and kill him right in front of the Z team.

Another android?!?
Now Trunks is confused. When the Z team reaches Dr.Gero's lab they confront android 17 and 18 for the first time. These two turn on their creator and then revive another android, number 16. Trunks doesn't understand what's going on, because there was no android 16 in his timeline.
Three years of training a waste
Because the androids were too strong, there was no way that the Z team would be able to beat them. It turns out that the training was a big waste. Yes, even cocky Vegita was no match for android 18. What would happen next?

· Piccolo fuses back with Kami sama: At one time Kami split into two entities: one that was good and one that was evil. The father (another story) of Piccolo was the result of the evil side. If Kami and Piccolo merge they will become a super warrior. Now that Piccolo changed and has good in his heart, and the threat of a greater evil emerging on Earth, will Kami decide to merge back with Piccolo?
· Exceed past the level of Super Saiyan: Goku comes up with the idea to train in the "room of time" where one day on Earth is equal to one year. If Goku and Vegita train in the "room of time", they can have one year of training in one day! Can the Saiyans surpass the level of Super Saiyan?

The terror from the future
A time machine is found which is identical to the one Trunks has. The only difference is that the machine looks old. The time machine says that it arrived in this timeline four (4) years ago. Inside the old time machine was a strange looking egg shell and some animal debris. It was later discovered that people have been disappearing from cities. Their energy was being drained by a strange life-force called Cell. A genetically created being (by none other than Dr.Gero himself) who traveled from a future more distant than that of Trunks. His purpose of traveling to the past is to absorb android 17 and 18 to become a perfect being. Now everything is clear; because of Cell's appearance in this timeline, it altered many of the events that were suppose to happen (they way history is in Trunks timeline). Now a new threat is on Earth and Cell must be stopped!

Synopsis:

Our story begins on New Namek, where a giant, planet-sized machine begins to devour the world. The Z warriors catch wind of the plot, and fly off to the crippled planet. By this time, all the inhabitants of Namek have been captured by advanced battle droids, and are being led off to a prison camp where they are to be executed. However, our heros arrive just in time, and save the Nameks from certain death. As the droids prepare for battle, the leader of the machine army, Metal Koola, reveals himself. He explains that after Koola was blasted into the sun, the space-faring Big Ghetti Star came across his remains and assimilated Koola's brain. The only way to sustain the tremendous sphere is to sap large amounts of energy from the cores of planets and its inhabitants. Piccolo, Kuririn, and Gohan begin battle with the robots, but their armor proves to be exceedingly tough to puncture. While his friends are occupied with the droid army, Goku begins to battle Metal Koola. It isn't long until Goku gains the upper hand, and knocks off one of Metal Koola's arms. Unfortunately, Koola regenerates his limb, and informs our hero that the Big Ghetti Star instantaneously corrects weaknesses and repairs damage. Now with better tactics, Metal Koola begins to win the fight. Yet out of nowhere, Vegeta comes to the rescue, and joins Goku in his foray. Meanwhile, Kuririn and Gohan have been captured by the droids, and flown to the prison camp. Only Piccolo remains, and with a huge burst of energy, he evaporates the remaining droids. With the army destroyed, Piccolo flies to the heart of the Big Ghetti Star. Vegeta and Goku attack Metal Koola at full strength, and turn his body into such a fine powder that no regeneration is possibly. Thinking that they have won, they are shocked to see hundreds of Metal Koola's sliding down a nearby ridge, and running straight towards them. The next thing they know, they are hanging in the main chamber of the Big Ghetti Star by thousands of tiny electrodes. Koola begins to steal their energy, but finds that the Ki of a Super Saiya-jin is too much to handle. With overloading batteries, the Big Ghetti Star begins to self-destruct. Goku and Vegeta, in a final showdown with the massive core of the world-eater, destroy Koola's remains. The good guys barely manage an escape, and the Big Ghetti Star explodes in a fireball. Namek is left scarred, but no blood is shed this day.

Our Thoughts:

This is, by far, my favorite Dragonball movie. The animation and music are far above the standard, and the battle droids are just plain cool-looking. The plot is fairly simple, but it is different from the usual "all-powerful being arrives, Z warriors must kill it." Instead, we are treated with a tale about a giant, ever-evolving spore colony. My one complaint would have to be the length of the movie: it was just too darn short. Many of the fight scenes seemed compressed for time, and the 45 minutes just didn't do it justice. This is one of the better anime films available, and even casual DBZ fans should own a copy.

5.5 of 7 - Spectacular battle scenes. DBZ Movie #9 - The Galaxy's in Danger! The Super Awesome Guy!

Synopsis:

Movie 9 begins with a tournament, organized as a birthday present for Dollar Money, the son of Gyusan Money, the richest man in the world. The combatants are to fight simultaneously, until there are only four contestants left. At this point, the remaining four were to fight four "aliens" (Idiots dressed up in costumes), and whoever finished first was to fight Mr. Satan for the grand prize. The first half of the movie is mainly comedy, with Gohan, Mirai no Trunks, and Kuririn fighting their way through the tournament, becoming three of the four finalists (The fourth was a huge sumo wrestler named Daisuke). All the while Gokou is watching his son from heaven, and Mr. Satan is engaged in his usual antics in trying to get away from "Those people!" The second half begins when, in the final rounds, the four "Aliens" have most obviously been replaced with REAL aliens- led by one named Bojack. Bojack had apparently tried to fight the gods some time ago, and was imprisoned in a star. Kaiou's death during the Cell game freed him, and he was trying to get special revenge on the North Kaiou by taking his student's planet first. Trunks defeats his opponent, but loses to Bojack, while Kuririn and Daisuke both lose to theirs- at the cost of Daisuke's life. Gohan doesn't finish his fight before all of the villains convene and introduce themselves, thus spawning one of the finest one-sided movie fight scenes yet, which lasts until everyone is trashed and Gohan is being crushed to death by Bojack. Gokou, breaking the afterlife rules, teleports out of heaven in an effort to save Gohan (He whacks Bojack in the jaw in what was actually a rather funny scene). Gohan then goes SSJ2 and kills two out of the three henchmen (The third expired at BojackÕs hands for showing fear), and Gohan then kills Bojack. The movie ends with everybody recovering in the hospital, a typical happy movie ending.

Our Thoughts:

Despite its shortcomings, which I will get into later, Movie 9 was one of the best of the DBZ movies. The fight scenes were well-done, the one-shot characters were creative, the music was incredible, particularly near the end, and it had a good mix of humor and action- not to mention the fact that it actually fit into the DBZ timeline. The only problems were that it was excessively short, that the enemy characters were not developed nearly enough (I hate wasted characters), and that it ended too abruptly. Gohan defeated Bojack with one punch. With those few exceptions, the movie was about as good as any DBZ movie could get, and was actually on par with the series a lot. Being one of the few that Toriyama had a big hand in, I recommend this movie to anyone who wants to find a good DBZ movie.

Synopsis:

As the movie begins, we are presented with a flashback. In it, a young boy with elf like ears and a sword (think Link with an orange Mohawk) is fighting a gigantic monster. Despite his masterful sword handling skills however, the boy is defeated. Time jumps forward to a point somewhere around the 25th Budoukai. As Gohan and Videl sit in class, Gohan receives a message on his wristwatch informing him that his assistance is needed in order to save an old man who is contemplating suicide. After saving the old man, Gohan learns that the old man only attempted to jump off a building in order to get his attention. The old man produces a golden music box, which he tells them contains a legendary warrior who has been trapped for ages. After several attempts to open the box using Goku's shear strength and Bulma's technological expertise, the warriors collect the Dragonballs and summon Shenlon to release Tapion, the warrior who is trapped inside the box. The box shatters at Tapion is released, and Trunks and Goten marvel over the legendary warrior. After inquiring as to his surroundings, Tapion informs them that he must be returned to the box at once, or the Earth will surely be destroyed. Tapion walks off as the Z Warriors contemplate the events that just took place. The following day Hildegarn, a large monster, is reeking havoc on the city. Gohan tries unsuccessfully to defeat the monster with several very large Ki blasts. However, the monster does not subside until Tapion arrives, and plays a tune on his flute, which causes the monster to disappear in a puff of smoke. The following day, Bulma attempts to build a device that will contain the monster and Tapion as well as the music box did. Unfortunately, as Tapion sleeps inside the device that night, the monster escapes from within him, and reeks havoc on the city once again. After a long and drawn out battle with Hildegarn, Goku decides to use a technique that he has never used before. He goes SSj 3, powers up, leaps into the air, extends his fist, and shouts "Ryu Ken". Hildegarn explodes in a flash of light. After the battle, Tapion presents Trunks with his sword, saying he won't need it anymore, and flies off. Neither the monster, nor Tapion are ever heard from again.

Our Thoughts:

Movie 13 is probably one of the better movies in the DBZ series. Only the second in the series to use computer-generated graphics, the visuals are striking. The camera's pans and zooms are superb, and even the non-computer-generated animation is commendable. The sound track, while not the best, is one of the better, featuring a wide range of high quality original and true-to-the-original music. As always, the voice acting is outstanding, far surpassing the meager limits of FUNimaton's dubs. The story is intriguing, and even attempts to explain a few things that transpire during the series (most notably, how Trunks acquired his sword). The movie runs a bit longer than most other Dragonball Z movies, albeit not nearly as long as movie 8, and achieves a nearly perfect length in doing so. Overall this movie is quite enjoyable, and is a must-have addition to any Dragonball Z otaku collection.
